The History of the Vacuum Cleaner
When was the first vacuum cleaner ever built? It is believed that in the mid eighteen
hundreds, the first vacuum was built and it was in the United States. Practically every household in North America now has a
vacuum.
Most people consider the vacuum cleaner a necessity. Without it, we would have many dirty carpets. Back before there were vacuums,
most people had either dirt or wood floors. Brooms were the primary cleaning tool for floors.
As time went on, people started covering their floors with carpets and rugs. This was done as a choice of decorating style and to
protect the floor underneath. Rugs were taken outside and beat with a stick in order to clean them. Then the rugs were left outside to air
out.
What would we do without the vacuum cleaner today? We certainly could not take out the carpets and beat them with a stick or rod.
We could do that for the rugs but not the carpets.
The first vacuum cleaner built with a motor was in around 1907. Since then, it has undergone numerous changes and upgrades to
where it is now.
Today there are numerous vacuum cleaner manufacturers featuring many different styles, models and prices. The styles include the
canister, handheld, upright, bagless, and cordless and shop vacuums.
Today’s vacuums have many features including the ability to shampoo and wax hard surface flooring.
You can purchase vacuum cleaners at most department stores along with specialty stores that specialize in just vacuums and their
accessories. Most manufactures have their own websites as well so you can research your choice before going to the store. You can even
purchase one online.
