Floor Polishing Machines

The basic construction of floor polishing machines consists of a handle, a body portion and a motor with a drive shaft that is arranged to rotate a disc. The disc holds a pad or a brush that polishes or scrubs the floor. The motor is what drives the disc and thus causes it to rotate on the floor. The handle is positioned over top of the pad and operates the direction to which the pad moves.

There are two types of these floor-polishing machines. One is a low speed machine where the machines weight puts pressure on the pad and on the floor that the user is cleaning. This machine will drive the pads or discs between one hundred RPM and five hundred rpm. The construction of this machine could include one rotating pad or two rotating pads or even three rotating pads. In the instance of more than one pad, they usually operate by counter-rotating.

The style of floor polishing machine also comes in a high-speed unit. This machine drives one disc and is built similarly to a low speed machine except that the motor assembly is supported on the ground by castors or wheels. The pad or brush is rotated at a high speed to create friction on the floor that you are cleaning. The RPM’s of this unit range from fifty to three thousand. The high speed creates a lot of heat so you end up with a well-polished floor as a result.

Some floor polishing machines are made to clean both wet and dry flooring. In addition, there are units that are capable of scrubbing, stripping and carpet cleaning. Here is a list of some of the features you will find in some of the better machines:

·        Wet and dry application

·        Single belt driven

·        Hour meters for usage tracking

·        Flexible handle bars

·        Night light

The general usage of floor polishing machines is industrial in nature. Most people do not have their own machine because they do not have the floor space that would require the usage of such a machine. Check with your local janitorial supply center or check online to get an idea of what specific products are on the market.
